Album Review

The debut release from Pennsylvania quartet Glass Prism sets the poetry of Edgar Allan Poe to grandiose psychedelic arrangements — the concept's more than a bit suspect, of course, but there's no denying the album's ambition or its execution. Both Tom Varano and Augie Christiano are imaginative composers skilled at folding classical and jazz precepts into the hard rock idiom, and their nuanced arrangements (dominated by chiaroscuro shades of funereal organ) artfully convey the melancholy and macabre at the heart of Poe's verse. Equally impressive are Glass Prism's four-part harmonies, employed most effectively on songs like "El Dorado."

I'm in heaven!!I love iTunes!!! Poe's the Raven

Have loved this song since 1969, bought the whole lp back then just to get this song, and have waited for years and years, hoping for iTunes to get this song!!!!!! THANK YOU APPLE, GOD BLESS YOU STEVE JOBS (RIP)!!And no, you don't need drugs to enjoy this awesome song... just get lyrics to The Raven off the net, and start singing along... true it's only half the poem, but Poe wouldn't have minded-- he'd have taken the check to the bank, being a practical genius-artistic type. Besides, the whole poem would've been 8 mins long, not 4, and although I adore it, it's still not "Hey Jude", which can pull off 7.5 minutes easily, nor "MacArthur Park"(the ultra-superior ultra-cool Dumbledore/Richard Harris version) also clocking in at 7-something minutes(all of them deliciously bad, like cake being left out in the rain...)
Sigh... nevertheless, you need search no longer on the night's Plutonian shore-- this is it -- perched upon a bust of Pallas (Steve Jobs?) just above my chamber door-- that old raven, "NEVERMORE" ..... :)

Glass Prism

Aah yes! Augie. What great memories of NEPA in the late 60's. Classic music. I hope these guys are still rockin'. If not, Ralph and Mel Wynn are gonna getcha.
