Customer Reviews

Apparently rock bands still make meaningful records.

There's a sense of maturity to Winston Audio's debut record that transcends those of it's predecessors--it's an air of subtle confidence that runs the length of the album. You'll find every bit of the musicianship of Pearl Jam's Ten, but none of the showboating or overplaying. You'll find the urgency and passion of Nirvana's Nevermind, but none of the wrecklessness or impulsivity or angst. You'll even find the melody and resolve of Superunknown-era Soundgarden. But as much as it recalls the still standing towers of grunge, it's firmly planted in the now. It doesn't cave to the doom and gloom of the early 90's, nor does it ever come across as derivative... it reads more as an introspective, riff-heavy blues rock record, but with the depth and earnestness of the aforementioned. The three-guitar arrangements pack a considerable punch, and the multi-layer harmonies add to the density of songs, but the bite is offset by lyrics as thoughtful, profound, and honest as anything I've come across lately. It's not perfect, but it's strong from start to finish. There's not much more I could ask for in a debut.

Energetic and thoughtful rock and roll from the heart of the south.

The Red Rhythm is a strong release by one of Atlanta's most up and coming young artists. Every track on this record fits together like the gears of a clock, every piece moving together in unison, serving their shared purpose in achieving it's desired goal. It is a solid debut for a band that will likely continue to impress as they flourish into their own musical identity, and is most definitely a record that you will find yourself listening to for a long time to come. Notable tracks include On My Trail, Hey Ann, Nothing to Hide, and Smoke Signal.

Well worth a listen

This album is well worth the listen and will reward the listener upon repeated sessions. While many tracks will come across as straight forward by peeling back a few layers you find a meaningful depth in the lyrics and well thought melodies. Listen to: Smoke Signal, Action / Reaction, Keeping it Down, Nothing to Hide, Hey Ann, and All This Time.
