Swingin' Sixties Italian Style

For Swingin Sixties and Sleazy Seventies soundtrack music, Piccioni is right up there with the greats like Morricone and John Barry. His music for this 1965 Marcello Mastroiani sci-fi spoof (aka The Tenth Victim) is a riot. It actually starts with track #2 -- skip the English-language track #1, it's an add-on. Track 2, the title theme, is an absolutely silly classic of dooby-ooby-doy-doy scat-singing to a really cool organ -- you've heard it. It's repeated in about a dozen variations through the rest of the score, but there's also some great Mancini-style lounge jazz, some 60s pop, some space-age atmospherics, some organ music that sounds like a beatnik riffing on a Wurlitzer in an empty ice hockey rink. Wild, fun stuff. If you like the Beat At Cinecitta series you'll like this. (You should watch the movie, too -- an excellent spy-assassin-scifi comedy based on a Robert Sheckley story.)
