Gentle and lyrical

I stumbled across a different album of hers (Candyfloss...) a few years ago and found myself instantly drawn to her voice. I am not usually drawn to this kind of girlie folk-rock, but I can't help loving many of her songs. The Scottish burr in her voice and her compassionate lyrics make her music a delight. Much of her music almost verges on what I would term 'cheesy', but something smarter and more emotionally balanced keeps it from slipping down that slope. I can't stop listening to the song 'The Right Place'.

A Fairground Attraction's Lead Singer follows on...

I stumbled upon A Fairground Attraction playing in Liverpool one year way back ... they opened for I believe Deacon Blue. Needless to say, A Fairground Attraction were about 1000 times better!!! Partially due to the endearing lyrics, simple song writing, and beautifully voice of Eddi Reader. While this album does not feel as genuine or as creative as Fairground Attraction there are some really nice songs in here. Eddi's singing is still great, the song craft just isn't as creative. Seems a bit too produced... but there are still thoughtful lyrics and memorable songs here. I encourage anyone to look for her previous effort in A Fairground Attraction -- simply brilliant!

Shortly after, she decided to settle in London and become a session vocalist. Her choice proved fruitful as her book soon filled up and she landed work with the Eurythmics, the Waterboys, and Gang of Four. None seemed...
