Album Review

Gothic vocals surrounded by synthesizer atmospherics will greet you upon entering the world of Xymox. While Twist of Shadows isn't exactly industrial in its sound, the bpm's run mid-tempo and sound totally danceable in a New Order-ish way. This includes the club hits "Obsession" and "Blind Hearts."

Customer Reviews

A "Must Have" for any CD collection.

This album is consistent. Way better than their releases afterwards. "Blind Hearts" and "Obsession" were club hits back in the late-80's in the cooler clubs. If you wan't a darker-sounding New Order-ish dance band with vocals that sound more Robert Smith-like this is for you. Get it. It's great!

A One Of A Kind Collection

One of the most beautiful albums ever made.

Twist of Shadows...A Gem of an Album

This is easily the best album from any incarnation of Xymox or Clan of Xymox. (Although each of the individual works are are good in their own right) Twist of Shadows is the just-dark-enough, hypnotic, melodic, at times dancible set that is interdespersed with electronic samples, and smooth dreamy flowing tracks to make this a musical treasure from 1989. Although, Obsession, and Blind Hearts were both released as singles and are great...Evelyn, and In the City are also both really good,(the latter really hinting of Sisters of Mercy influence), Imagination is the suprise outstanding track and the only with female vocals... this is my favorite track of the set. Excellent overall.

The original lineup included Ronny Moorings (guitars, vocals), Pieter Nooten (keys), Frank Weyzig (guitar, keys), and Anka Wolbert (bass, vocals) on their 1983 debut EP Subsequent Pleasures. Originally signed to the influential British indie 4AD, Clan of Xymox's blend of icy synthesizers, hard dance beats, and dramatic vocals attracted attention...
