The Roar of the Greasepaint the Smell of the Crowd
I saw this play in the Shurbert Theatre in 1965 and fell in love with it. I got a job at the theatre selling drinks and candy during intermission and did coat check at other times. I liked the music so much I got to hear it over 400 times. It still holds up after all these years. Take a listen and see what I see and hear. Thanks, Peter Groubert
An Overlooked Classic!!
Unlike the first reviewer - I NEVER saw this show - in fact I was only 4 when this show had it's relatively brief run on Broadway in 1965. However, my older brother had purchased the album when it was released - and played it constantly on his brand new KLH stereo system. This record was always a big hit in our house, and I never understood why this show was not more considered "a classic". The songs are fantastic - and many stand on their own to this day. From the truly classic "Who Can I Turn To" - which HAS found it's way into the Tony Bennet setlist for years - to The Joker and Feeling Good there are more classics here than in other more popular shows like "Man of LaMancha"..for example. Anthony Newly co-wrote this show (and starred in it as well) - and his most famous work is certainly the music in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - you know, the "old one"... Anyway - if you have come across this recording looking for a unique but great cast album that is a blast to listen to over and over again - go ahead and grab this. It's given me and my family over 40 years of enjoyment - it's really an overlooked CLASSIC.
I don't know
I know three people who are singing a song from this album. Here they are: 1.ME!---On a Wonderful Day like Today 2.A girl in my Audition Workshop---With All Due Respect 3.A girl in my school---This is my first Love Song
