Customer Reviews

Warm and fuzzy like a Power-Pop bear-hug.

As a fan of great powerpop, especially Beatles/Beach Boys/Zombies/Costello/XTC/Kinks, etc, this CD couldn't hit the nail any more squarely on the head. Earnest, honest and unapologetic. Whereas Corin Ashley's former band, the Pills were one of Boston's most high-energy powerpop flag wavers (think Sloan on uppers!) this CD is a lot more homey and intimate, wihout sounding like Ashley's "acoustic" solo record. Super catchy and clever songs. Very tasteful production where appropriate. Ashley's not afraid to let his roots show, especially with an homage like "For Roy Orbison," but those familiar with his work with The late-great Pills, will spot his own unmistakeable personality all over this CD. If you're tired of waiting for the next Jason Falkner CD and you miss Eliott Smith's more poppy endeavors, you need this CD. Download "Gin and Panic" "File Me Under Regret" or "Her Mercury Smile" and you will be grinning for days. (complete disclosure: yes, I know Corin personally, and yes, I recorded about 1/32nd of this CD, and no, Corin doesn't know I'm writing this, and yes I really mean what I'm saying, even though it sounds like some bullsh*t press release. Just check out the clips. It really is a fantastic CD.)

Album of The Year- Boston Music Award nominated

Corin Ashley played bass and sang in Boston’s pop wizards The Pills for many a year, but as he kids on his MySpace page, “I mostly have that under control these days.” He’s also got good songwriting under control on his solo release, “Songs From The Brill Bedroom.” If you’re not a fan of Costello, The Kinks or Beatle-esque pop, then steer clear of “Brill Bedroom.” Otherwise, feel free to enjoy the heck out of this CD. “File Me Under Regret” is a mid tempo rock song that would make Sir Paul happy. Maybe George, too. The acoustic ballad “Foolproof” and string-laden “The Royal Standard” offset the full-band songs, like the double time “Ladybug,” nicely. The entire CD features Ashley’s huge voice and skillful wordplay. Good times. Jon Nolan

Thoroughly Enjoyable

I saw Corin Ashley life (with Scott) and loved their set completely. Corin gave out CDs and I immediatley gave it a go. I LOVE IT! It's unique, lovable, and will soon become my Pick Me Up CD I can tell. My favorites are "Ladybug," "File Me Under Regret," and "Being Twelve." This purchas is worth it and if you get the chance to see him live (with or without Scott - though he added tons to the show), do it. You won't be let down.
