Album Review

After disbanding New Grass Revival, Bela Fleck began re-creating the role of the banjo in the same way Charlie Parker redefined the role of the saxophone. But Fleck may be the least-innovative member of this quartet: Howard Levy gets chromatics from his blues harp, Victor Wooten picks banjo rolls on his bass, and Roy "Future Man" Wooten plays a Frankenstein-monster drum-machine/guitar synthesizer. For all the flash, there's little pretense; the group's astonishing musicianship keeps an "aw-shucks" accessibility that lets everybody follow the melody while they marvel.

Customer Reviews

This album is a must have. You have never heard banjo played like this! Victor wooten is simply one of the best bass players to have ever lived! this album will appeal to anyone who loves great music. It was originally just a project for these guys to play together, so they did it for themselves, without thinking about money. buy it now

Victor Wooten

Best Bassist. People may not know about him but he is up there with the legends that people do know maybe even above the likes of John Entwhistle, JPJ, Flea, etc... Buy sinister minister just to get a taste of his sick licks

Still Freakin

Haven't really truly listened to this with all my attention for years, but still excites me to hear a sound that I had never heard before, and it was mindblowing then, and so deserving of SO much more attention.

I don't know why some fantastic music doesn't live on the way this one deserves to, and yet, it's hard to hear in public, and isn't the first to spring to my mind, either. but it really should. It's a shame it doesn't fall neatly into a genre or pigeonhole, so it might get more exposure on the airwaves.

What these guys do together here is joyous, exciting, and full of wonder.

You gotta listen!!!
