Album Review

Much like their previous collaboration, Rain, 1996's The Spell combines the electronic talents of Kevin Braheny & Tim Clark in an exploration of musical and emotional concepts. This time around, the duo focused on magic and illusion, creating eight pieces that feature Braheny's emotive, haunting Steiner EWI tones and Clark's percussive arrangements. The Arabian-inspired "A Perfect Evening for Flying Carpets" has a hypnotic, trance-like effect, while "The Spell" lends a seductive note to the album. Intricate compositions like "Time in the Mirror" and "Sorcerer's Parade" reflect different aspects of mystery and illusion, engaging the listener's imagination. The clear, spacious sound of the duo's binaural recording techniques add another dimension to The Spell's charm. With this album, Clark and Braheny cement the magic of their creative partnership.

Your Own Road Movie

Ethereal, timeless, enchanting and a list of other superlatives come to mind in describing this artful collaboration between Messrs. Braheny and Clark. I downloaded this album to add to my collection of driving tunes. This is the kind of music tailored for those extended road trips.Just strap in, engage the cruise control, crank up THE SPELL and watch the world drift past like a movie in your windshield.

Spacious and Emotional...

Having listened to this album many times I find it gets better with every listen. This is a very emotional album with lots of beautiful pieces all attached in a haunting, spacious atmosphere. I highly recommend this album if you enjoy the sensation of drifing through space listening to an orchestra and dreaming of far away places.
