11 Songs, 1 Hour 13 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

A masterful concept album about the self-destruction of society. Much more than just power-driven thrash songs, “Higher” and “The Stage” are multi-part epics fueled by thematic ambitions and annihilative intensity. The band's portrait of corrupt power brokers and decayed minds peaks with “Exist,” a panoramic finale unlike anything since Metallica’s “One.”

Quiet mastering? LOL

If you are complaining this album is too quiet, then TURN UP THE VOLUME! This is the way music should actually be mastered, not turned into a complete wall of sound from heavy compression (Which is just about every other release today). Dynamics, learn them people.

Ok, as for the music, it's another great job by the guys. And a well deserved treat despite the legal ongoings with Warner Bros. Now, if we could get a vinyl release...

The Surprise Of The Year

Trust me, I had a heart attack when this album popped out of freakin nowhere. And God was this ever-so satisfying! Avenged Sevenfold is back with their most daring album yet with a splash no one saw coming.

After "The Stage" was released, a part of me felt disappointed. With all due respect, it's a phenomenal 8-minute track we haven't seen since "A Little Piece Of Heaven" with Synyster Gates taking front and center, but I began thinking that the reckless sound of AV had become lost and now we would be left with a continuation of "Hail To The King". Nope! The chaotic energy missing from the band's last album is welcomed back with open arms. If the next few tracks don't persuade that to you, then I don't know how to help you. In terms of musicianship, this is THE definitive record to demonstrate the band's chemistry. No instrument feels left out and everyone gets their moment while never feeling repetitive or overdone. And for Avenged Sevenfold to make a concept album this time is insane, especially considering how it's themes line up with the 2016 election. The atmosphere feels grandiose with dashes of majesty and swirls of bitter reality. As far as it's conclusion goes, it is what "Octavarium" is to Dream Theater for being the greatest crown jewel of the record.

I have never been more excited for an album release quite like this! Here's to the Deathbat rising once again to remind us that it's legacy is not yet over, nor will it go out anytime soon.

Avenged Sevenfold is Back!

In this album, Synyster and Zacky are back to dueling the guitars and Brooks is shredding on the drums. As always, Shadows' voice is supreme.
