iTunes Review

The collaboration between Seattle beat maker Jake One and Philly rapper Freeway is definitive of a new creative model for rap music: one producer from one part of the country links with a rapper from another part of the country in the service of a lean, focused album with a minimum of guests and gimmicks. The Stimulus Package is clearly meant to echo the fundamentalist values of old-school hip-hop culture without resorting to nostalgia or imitation. The songs are well crafted and straightforward, laced with vintage soul samples that don’t mimic the 2001-era old-style of Kanye West, but rather seem to conjure the voices from an earlier generation of hardworking black voices. This effect is best experienced on “Money,” in which Freeway recounts a lifetime of hustles — from sweeping hair in the barbershop to “sellin’ incense and oils to all the people there”— over a mournful sample from 24 Carat Black’s 1973 song “Poverty’s Paradise.” Freeway’s final verse from the same song epitomizes the album’s ethos.

Stimulus Package has arrived!!!!!

This an amazing album, automatic bumped into my top ten.

Philly Freeza at his BEST

He came hard on Philadephia Freeway, but this is the Philly Freeza at his best. Starting off with his Philly bretheren Beans on the intro, on to the end with the outro aknowledging the fans that write to him, it's a classic, whether mainstream or indie. In between are great tracks like "Throw Your Hands Up"' lettin' y'all know that he's back, "She Makes Me Feel Alright", that track that samples Rick James' "Mary Jane" so nicely with Free's lryics about that perfect chick. On top of that, he got them G #'s like "Never Gonna Change" (my personal favorite!), Microphone Killa, which he and Young Chris display true MC skillz, and "The Product", which remind y'all what got y'all hooked in the first place ( not the drugs, his lyrics y'all)) and not to mention, features from Birdman, Bun B, and more. If you love Hip Hop, You'll love this. EARLY!

Celebrating my birthday with The Stimulus Package!!!

From the beginning to the end, this is the first album that I can play all the way through in 2010. Dope beats, dope rhymes, what more can you ask for?! Treasure these kinds of albums because they are hard to find these days.
