Vitamin's String Quartet Tribute to Evanescence reworks nine tracks from the Arkansas band's major label debut Fallen, and proves that the elegiac grace apparent in that album was not simply a fluke of production or savvy marketing. Arranged for violin, viola, and cello, "Bring Me to Life," "Tourniquet," and especially "Going Under" become surging chamber anthems, while the skyward-climbing melody of "My Immortal" is made even more poignant by the tension between cello and violin. Quieter moments like "Hello" really show off the instruments' versatility, while "Whisper" retains the apocalyptic feel of its Fallen counterpart. It might have been a good idea to wait until Evanescence had more than one album readily available before issuing this string tribute, but the set will still be an interesting listen for any fan enamored of the group's goth-tinged sound.
When my parents got tired of me blasting my "screaming songs" I went to look for something that me and them could both enjoy me listening to. While on the hunt for a good cd or song, I got the Linkin Park tribute by these people. I, myself, liked them, and I knew my mom liked classical music, and my dad enjoyed strings, so I thought it would be cool to see what other stuff these people had. I looked around and found this, but sadly, my parents didn't let me buy the whole album (they said I needed to get an iTunes card for some reason. I think it's billing stuff, but i dunno. whatever...). But from what I've got, it's really great and I wish I could have bought the entire thing. When I do, however, I know I will enjoy listening to it. I was also looking through the comments and I saw that some people said that "Well, these people are just plain horrible 'cuz I've been playing the cello for years now, and they missed a few notes." They even add in, "Don't buy the cd. Trust me on this." I don't even know you! Why would I not want to buy music that I know I'm gonna enjoy just because you said so? Come on! Those people who don't know can't hear that! And even if they do, it doesn't take away from the beauty of the dark and sorrowful song! It's only a FEW notes, not half the song! I'm only 13 and I can easily say this! If these people that I'm reading comments from are really adults, then GROW UP. I don't care how long you've been playing your instrument! I've been playing piano for only a month now! Do you care? No? Didn't think so. I know that these people are great and how much work it can take to try to play a song by someone else without sounding like those other crappy tribute bands. It's a LOT of work... Basicly I'm saying to not tell me and the other people what to do, because we'll buy the music we think is good, and you can buy the music you think is good. If we didn't want to listen to this, we wouldn't, so quit telling people that they shouldn't buy what they enjoy! To this cd, I rate 5 stars, but to those who don't like the songs "because they missed a couple notes" I don't even think you deserve 1 star! Thank you for reading all the way through, and thank you to those who agree with me. PS. EVANESCENCE ROCKS!!!
If you are a true evanescence fan who listens to the soul of the music (and not the heavy meatal guitars) you should get this simply amazing album i wish all of their songs were played like this.
This is actually really good, you can sing along. Or use it in a talent show.... :)
