Album Review

Playlist: The Very Best of Coheed and Cambria collects 14 cuts from the epic, New York progressive metal outfit. The group’s penchant for crafting highly conceptual slabs of fantasy and science fiction-fueled hard rock makes for some difficult compiling, but the folks at Playlist have managed to dutifully represent the band’s mammoth scope by balancing the singles (“Welcome Home” and “Favor House Atlantic”) with fan favorites and rarities, offering listeners not yet in the fold the opportunity to sample some of the outfit's better wares.

Customer Reviews

Surprisingly well chosen playlist.

Would have switched Pearl of the Stars for Far but otherwise this is as great as could be expected for a greatest hits. I'm a bit disappointed this was such a mum release though. I feel like mainstream listeners would respond to this better than any one album.

If you're new to Coheed, buy this, it's a good sampler, but once you feel you're ready to go deeper, here are the tracks you're missing out on.

Time Consumer
The Crowing
The Camper Velourium (I, II, and III)
Apollo I: THe Writing Writer
THe Light and the Glass
The WIlling Well (I, II, III, IV)
The Hound (Of Blood and Rank)
Mother Superior
The Broken
This Shattered Symphony
The Black Rainbow

Awesome but don't buy

If you buy this you will just fall in love with Coheed and buy all their other albums anyways. So skip the extra step and go buy all the other albums. The only track that any Coheed fan must buy from this album is the acoustic version of "Wake Up" because it is different than the version of "Wake Up" in "Good Apollo I'm a Burning Star IV"

Although originally formed as a rock trio in 1995, New York's Coheed and Cambria officially took root in 2001, shedding their former name of Shabutie and embracing a fusion of progressive rock, emocore, and highly conceptual album themes. Vocalist/guitarist Claudio Sanchez, guitarist Travis Stever, bassist Michael Todd, and drummer Joshua Eppard issued their group's full-length debut, 2002's The Second Stage Turbine Blade, on the Albany-based Equal Vision Records. The band toured extensively for...
