One of The Best Jazz Vocal Albums of 2014

Dara Tucker is an execptional songwriter AND vocalist. It's not often these days to hear jazz originals that are not only memorable, but that reach beyond the borders of genre to attract and win other listners. "Sometimes Love" "Morning Sun", "Naive" and "Time is On Our Side" in particular could easily have a lives outside of this album as potential "new" cover songs for other, yet additionally talented artists. "Giants" is genre-less and sounds ready for a feature film. Dara's voice is warm and pleasant, yet precise. She doesn't have to rely on affactations or acrobatics--she just sings the song right at you in a way that reaches your soul. Add Helen Sung, Peter Bernstein, Donald Edwards, John Ellis and Alan Ferber to the mix on their instruments, and you have a sound that is hard to top. Get this album now and share it with folks who like great, honest music.

A Fresh and Honest Statement

Like a Zora Neale Hurston novel, Dara Tucker’s recent album, “The Sun Season”, wraps the listener in narrative variations comprised of beautiful lyrics, melodies, rhythms, and harmonies. Throughout previous projects Tucker’s emphasis has centered on creating fresh and deeply personal renditions of standards from the American songbook. However “The Sun Season” showcases her honest and masterful abilities as a songwriter and composer.

The Sound of Sunlight

What if you could hear sunshine? It might sound exactly like Dara Tucker's third studio release, "The Sun Season".
Two standards are covered that you simply must hear. "The Nearness of You" is a satisfying, soulful rendition. "Over The Rainbow", arguably one of the best songs ever written, has been covered by countless artists. Yet, Dara, accompanied by pianist Helen Sung, makes this classic all her own.
This collection reveals the continued evolution of Dara's songwriting skills. It is no small feat to compose a love song that says it differently than all the others. Yet, Dara brings a unique approach with "Time Is On Our Side", "See It Always", and "Naive". The "sun" theme covers a range of emotions, from intimate romance to spiritual awareness.
I've found "The Sun Season" to be the perfect vessel for escaping the tension of a morning commute. Dara's voice is at the helm, guiding us with confidence and technique, ethos and precision, into the sound of sunlight.
