6 Songs, 19 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Taylor Swift's six-song Holiday EP is a class act. Originally released in October 2007 as an exclusive-only available at participating Target stores in America, The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection was re-released for wider distribution in December 2008. Rather than open with a traditional carol, Swift starts the party with a playful version of "Last Christmas," originally penned by George Michael as a double a-sided 45 rpm single for his British pop duo Wham! in 1984. Christmas bells and banjos replace synthesizers and falsettos making for a fitting update. She gets more pensive and lovelorn on the following acoustic ballad "Christmases When You Were Mine," one of two songs here that she had a hand in writing. "Santa Baby" gets twanged up and sung with a girlish tone that comes off more innocent than the flirty versions by Eartha Kitt and Madonna. Swift changes Franz Xaver Gruber's 1863 melody on a breathtaking version of "Silent Night," leaving Josef Mohr's lyrics intact making for what sounds like a brand new, but familiar, song. "Christmas Must Be Something More" is a holiday hit. Her sole original here, the song bounces with the youthful exuberance and barbed hooks that Swift excels at writing and singing.

A Great Christmas Album

I bought this a year ago around this same day and this CD has been played all year long. This Christmas CD is wonderful and fans of christmas music or just fans of Taylor will be happy to own this great album.

1. Last Christmas- (10/10) I love this song, I can't get enough of it actually... I have never actually heard the original but I know that this arrangement, that her voice, and the liveliness brought to this song is real and has become one of my favorite Christmas songs.

2. Christmases When You Were Mine- (10/10) This is a very sad song... but it is beautiful and she really shines in this song. *This is a classic Taylor Swift song*

3. Santa Baby- (8/10) I never really cared for this song... but I enjoy listening to Taylor Swift sing a Christmas classic with such joy to it. This version also has the best music of any version of this song I've heard.

4. Silent Night- (100/10) Before I start, yes that is 100. I have never heard such a creative version of this song. This song has been changed for Taylor and this is another "I haven't heard a better version song".... she justs sings with so much purity in this song.

5. Christmas Must Be Something More- (10/10) This is the catchiest song on the whole album. I believe almost everyone can relate to this song because now, at Christmas time nobody stops to remeber our savior's birth... she truly shows what Christmas has become and what it should be. *Classic Taylor*

6. White Christmas- (8/10) I like this song a lot... I just don't like it compared to other versions of this song such as George Strait. But I still think it's worth a listen because she really does a great job on it and the music is yet again top notch and will get you in the holiday mood.

So if you're in the holiday mood I suggest you pick up this CD, get some hot cocoa, sit around the fireplace, and have a wonderful christmas (or if you're like me anytime you just want a bit of joy in your life)
