iTunes Review

On Some Kind of Salvation, the Features blend punchy power pop with skewed Southern rock (think Kings of Leon, a band they’ve toured with) and create a set of energetic, infectious songs. Hailing from Tennessee, this is the band’s second full-length release and with a front line of riff-heavy electric guitar and chiming keyboards, the album features an impressive number of memorable hooks and catchy choruses, the best of which may be the terrific “Lions.” There are also driving horns (“The Drawing Board, “Wooden Heart”), rowdy rave-ups (“The Temporary Blues”), a great left-field selection riding an unexpected synth beat that quickly grows on you (“Concrete”), and a pair of soulful ballads (“The Gates of Hell,” “Baby’s Hammer”). The songs are sharp, the lyrics clever and interesting, and lead singer and guitarist Matt Pelham has a powerful and evocative voice that really gets these tunes across. Raw and unpretentious, Some Kind of Salvation is a fun album that delivers the goods.

Long Live The Features!

This will be the album that everyone talks about. The Features are back after too long and dish up a collection of raw and unfettered tunes reflecting a maturity and candor not seen in their freshman LP Exhibit A. It's also fantastic that this is the Bonus Track version (the CD release is the regular, these last bonus tracks, "Now You Know" and "Mosis Tosis," were previously only available on the limited edition LP. Check out "Lions," "Drawing Board," and "Now You Know." LONG LIVE THE FEATURES!

This is Heavy!

This is the best next thing. These guys have had a few great records in the past but this one puts it all out there. Lions is definitely the most catchy thing I've heard in a while, but The Temporary Blues, Now You Know, GMF and Wooden Heart could be just as huge.

Absolutely wonderful!

"Some Kind of Salvation" has to be one of the best albums I've come across in years! "Lions," "Baby's Hammer," and "All I Ask" are few of my favorites off this album. Definitely check it out if you haven't already!

Formed: 1997 in Sparta, TN

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

The Features are a psychedelic rock outfit that plays fresh, off-kilter pop that sounds like a head-on collision between Ray Davies and Elvis Costello with the Elephan 6 Collective picking up the pieces and putting them back together in the American South. Formed in the small, hidden town of Sparta, Tennessee, guitarist and vocalist Matt Pelham, bassist Roger Dabbs, keyboardist Parrish Yaw, and drummer Rollum Haas began playing their quirky and contagious pop as the Features around Pelham's colorful...
