The cello collective take on eccentric indie pop with tracks from Thao Nguyen of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down and Portland singer/songwriter Justin Power. The group's lush layering of strings illuminates the melancholy residing deep in Thao's otherwise light and lithe pop songs, transforming tracks like "Violet" into sweeping, Joanna Newsom-esque elegies. It's an intriguing contrast to Power's gloomy, almost grungy melodies ("Cut the Rope") and the Cello Project's own searing cover of Pantera’s "Mouth for War.”
