iTunes Review

Mary Chapin Carpenter exudes hard-won calm and wisdom on her 14th album, a set of gorgeous Americana tracks that serve as a memoir. She charts her journey to thick layers of guitar on the upbeat "Map of My Heart” and details small but impactful memories on the poignant, string-swept ballad "Hand on My Back." Producer Dave Cobb lets her evocative lyrics and delicate croons lead the way, and the slight acoustic picks and Telecasters wobbling softly underneath seem to echo Carpenter's own wistful musings.

Customer Reviews

I have become one with this song “Something Tamed Something Wild” as it’s like a map of me! This lady has been like a therapist/friend to me for so many years and I swear it’s like she’s taken all my notes and our conversations and turned them into musical confessions on my behalf! I’m so EXCITED to hear this new album and I’m a FOREVER-FAN of this lady, her music, and it’s message! Well done MCC!!!!!

I love loving new music like this.

We always hope a new album lives up to our hopes, and when one like this comes along that not only meets but exceeds our hopes, we can’t help but use words like love. This touches the soul from the very first beat and takes you along for a comforting ride of music. I really do love this album.

Carpenter was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey, the daughter of a Life magazine executive; she spent two years of her childhood in Japan, where her father was launching the Asian edition of Life....
