Album Review

Bipolar Cowboy is, in almost every respect, a more lo-fi and punk-influenced release than most of the band's earlier work. By featuring the band's angular, scratchy side (and dropping some of the Southern riff-rock leanings that hampered Fire in the Hole), the record asks to be taken much more seriously than other releases, creating a trashier, more Southern counterpart to the riot grrrl acts of the Northwest. Judging by these standards, Bipolar Cowboy is the band's best release.

The North Carolina indie punk band Picasso Trigger was formed in 1989 by vocalist Kathy Poindexter, guitarist Lisa Cooper, and bassist Samuel Mintu. The trio used several drummers during the early '90s before finally settling on Johnny Williams.
