OJ, better known by his stage name Catesby , is a British-American music producer and DJ. His first releases date back to the late 90s and include a variety of musical elements borrowed from hip hop, drum n bass and IDM; he has since played at venues all over Berlin and elsewhere.
Catesby was born in England in 1985. His stage name is derived from his paternal ancestry, which can be traced back to a group of royal assassins, who rebelled against the British monarchy in the late 18th century. He began producing bass music after dabbling with Hiphop and drum n bass for a number of years, producing for a number of notable Chicago rappers.
Catesby cites a wide range of musical influences and inspirations spanning across a variety of genres and musical styles. His style has been described as "the harmonious bellows emanating from the depths of a dark and tortured machine", yet Catesby maintains a "funky and gangster" ambiance despite the dark roboticism of his bass lines.
He released his debut album "The Urchin of Menace" through his own label, which is closely linked to RTA Crew-a hip hop, urban art collective based in north-side Chicago.
Catesby continues to electrify audiences and melt sound systems with his uniquely robust bass sequences, sophisticated synth harmonies and syncopated rhythm production.
