You Gotta Be Kidding, No Reviews? This is a CLASSIC!

I feel that this album, the Velvet Undergound's eponymous follow-up to "White Light/White Heat" is the band's most engaging and listenable release in their entire catalogue. Of course, you have to start with "The Velvet Underground & Nico", just because okay?...You just do, it's the rules....But this album contains a lot of their more "catchy" songs while still maintaing that edginess that made VU the most popular band to never be popular.

I mean, you rarely find Lou Reed more optimistic than on "I'm Beginning to See the Light". "What Goes On" is another highlight. It's a great pop song; it just has a over amped viola solo in the middle. Of course, "After Hours" is the song I have not been able to get out of my head since I first heard it (Covered By R.E.M.) when I was a teen. Moe Tucker just sings away in what I say is one of the most under-rated songs ever. I don't speak with such hyperbole that often.

Bottom line, this is like the Velvet's "Revolver" in the sense, it's not too sweet and its not to "out there"...Like Goldilocks and her porridge it's just right.

Finally on iTunes - just great album

Love this album. No "Sweet Jane" type hits, but probably their best overall work from beginning to end. The ending duo of The Murder Mystery and After Hours is sublime. My wife likes less trippy stuff, but for me, this is the perfect album to listen to while sitting on my deck w/ a scotch, a cigar, and a fire in the firepit. Highly recommended if you are any kind of a VU fan, or even just curious about them.

J'aime bien!

I love this album with a burning passion. So good it will make your face hurt…One of the best albums recorded ever, in my opinion. The Velvet Underground is truly a gem in the spectrum of existence.

Formed: 1964 in New York, NY

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '90s

Few rock groups can claim to have broken so much new territory, and maintain such consistent brilliance on record, as the Velvet Underground during their brief lifespan. It was the group's lot to be ahead of, or at least out of step with, their time. The mid- to late '60s was an era of explosive growth and experimentation in rock, but the Velvets' innovations — which blended the energy of rock with the sonic adventurism of the avant-garde, and introduced a new degree of social realism and sexual...
