Roarin' 20s - Great Album!
The arrangements are spot on, with excellent performances by the musicians. A great mix of dancing tunes and love songs. I wanted to hear more vocals in the free snippets as they're very good. Ms. Peterson shows she is quite adept in the quick moving "Do You?" and has excellent phrasing in "Plucky Lindy". A good album to mix-in with the rest of your tunes as the songs are short, energetic and to the point. More vocals and it's a 5 star album.
Spot On Recreation of the '20s Sound
A lot of retro swing bangs "just play the notes" without any real feeling for the music while others go overboard by trying too hard. Paul Frederick and company really get the sound right with tasteful playing that captures the essence of the music and the era... with the added bonus of modern recording technology. Valerie Peterson's vocals are lusciously delivered on this collection of relatively obscure tunes from the 1920's. This isn't your typical collection of early standards, but rather a window into the popular taste of the day... songs that didn't necessarily transcend the era but deserve to be heard nontheless.
