No Cowboy Rocks Like Dwight Yoakam

Dwight Yoakam is a great country artist, doing it like they used to. His music is a great example of why rockers just might consider a country crossover. He's not "new country," which rock and roll fans know is just pop, and he's not "rockin' country," which is code for a different kind of pop. Dwight does the real country thing, and the real rock thing, which is doing his own thing. The songs here are great, and it's a shame that so many of his other great songs are missing. The biggest advantage this album has to offer those unfamiliar with Dwight Yoakam is his interpretations of "Suspicious Minds," "I Want You To Want Me," "Little Sister," and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," but it's also the biggest drawback of the album. He has so many great songs that it's a shame to leave them off in place of other artists' songs. Fortunately, he does a great job with them all. Country fan or Rock and Roll fan, this is an album to get.

aint that lonely yet

Might be the best song I have ever heard

Every single song on here has some signifigance to any country fans. Get this. Dwight is not just country, his living legend far exceeds the standards of country. The only song that sould have been on here that wasn't is What do you know about love. Seriously, this is Dwights used records 2. You have probably been playing these to death. Why, because of the unique twang that Dwight brings to the table.

With his stripped-down approach to traditional honky tonk and Bakersfield country, Dwight Yoakam helped return country music to its roots in the late '80s. Like his idols Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and Hank Williams, Yoakam never played by Nashville's rules; consequently, he never dominated the charts like his contemporary Randy Travis. Then again, Travis never played around with the sound and style of country music like Yoakam. On each of his records, he twists around the form enough to make it...
