I'm speechless. This will be a short review until I've had a chance to really digest how awesome this album is and why. I was blown away on first listen.
This album is *extremely* current and time-period capturing (2013). You'll also hear echos of the past from the very early 80's -- touches of King Diamond, Celtic Frost, Motorhead, and other greats nodding in approval (with the beat) while you listen to it, while the compositions are 100% fresh off the press -- Vhol. Unlike a lot of metal out there -- you've NEVER heard these compositions before. The album gets better with every listen.
Riding the edge between "familiar" and "experimental/new/fresh" is a delicate act, and this album accomplishes it perfectly. Every song sounds familiar, AND new/fresh/experimental at the same time.
If you are a metalhead, buy this album. This is what metal *should* sound like. Nobody has composed better metal since 2000, than John Cobbett. Dig into his last 10+ albums if you haven't already done so. They are all gems like this one.
I bought this based on a review in Terrorizer. Whatever. But really, it's awakened me from a lengthy period of "meh" with a lot of metal that seemed phoned in, despite accolades. Great mix of death, punk, and psychedelic.
