iTunes Review

In his first musical incarnation in the early 1960s, Dion DiMucci brought together doo-wop, R&B, and early rock n’ roll, along with a teen idol following that threatened to trivialize his very serious musical aspirations. He dabbled in folk music in the late 1960s, scoring the hit, “Abraham, Martin and John” in the process, and for the past few decades has entertained audiences with a wide variety of material. At nearly 70 years old, Dion revisits his youthful favorites with a strong, unpretentious attack that never belittles the material. Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues,” Buddy Holly’s “Rave On,” the Everly Brothers’ “Bye Bye Love,” Johnny Cash’s “I Walk the Line,” Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love” and Dion’s own “The Wanderer,” all top of the line classics, are delivered as if they were written yesterday. There isn’t an ounce of nostalgia to these tracks. They never try to recreate a bygone era, but merely celebrate the timeless quality of the songwriting. His voice is surprisingly strong and his backing band never relents.

How Many Artists Get BETTER Over A Stellar Career?

Not too many. Dion is definitely one. Everything he's done since YO, FRANKIE has been pure rockin' GOLD, and this album is no exception. Great songs, by a GREAT artist who deserves to have more people know that he is simply BETTER THAN EVER. Sample these songs. Buy this record. Then go back for YO,FRANKIE, DEJA NEW, the incredible NEW MASTERS, his Blues albums--BRONX IN BLUE, and SON OF SKIP JAMES, and the best Christmas album of all-time: ROCK N' ROLL CHRISTMAS. When you're done with all that, get the DION:LIVE IN CONCERT DVD, and then find a way to see him LIVE yourself. Yeah, I guess I like Dion. He's one of my very favorite artists, but it's not just some oldies nostalgia trip---I mean, sure--he was one of the greatest of the early rockers, no doubt. But all these albums, even the covers and re-dos of his own classics are a brand new experience that equal or surpass his early work. He's never sounded better, and he's got a hipper-than-ever, blues-laden approach that just electrifies his material. He's cool, he's honest, and he's fun.

Hey Young Rockers; Check This Album Out!

First of all - I admit that I'm a "Boomer" and grew up on 50's and 60's music (aka "oldies") of the sort contained on this album. However, you have to understand that us boomers love our music because that's all we really had in the way of entertainment back then. The first thing you should know about this album is that it's FUN! You can't help tap your feet and break out the old "air guitar" when you're listening! Hey, remember "FUN"? The second thing is that Dion does a great job covering these big hits from the 50's by the likes of Elvis, Bo Diddley, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, and many others. However, the thing that has made this album one of my all time favorites is the guitar work on every single track; it is exceptional! I have to confess that I did not realize Dion was such an accomplished guitarist, but he is. However, his back-up guitarist Robert Richardson provides much of the fireworks going on in the background. The DVD that accompanies this album is just as entertaining as the CD. Dion sheds some interesting light on the careers and personalities of the artists he is paying tribute to on the album. Word of advice to you young and aspiring rock musicians out there; this album should be required listening for you! The truly great composers and musicians over the years learned from the "Masters" that went before them....Listen and Learn my friends!

This is a "MUST HAVE"

after all these years Dion still has it! He does a killer job on all these songs! well worth the money! thanks I Tunes!

Bridging the era between late-'50s rock and the British Invasion, Dion DiMucci (born July 18, 1939) was one of the top white rock singers of his time, blending the best elements of doo wop, teen idol, and R&B styles. Some revisionists have tried to cast him as a sort of early blue-eyed soul figure, although he was probably more aligned with pop/rock, at first as the lead singer of the Belmonts, and then as a solo star. Drug problems slowed him down in the mid-'60s, yet he made some surprisingly interesting...
