Customer Reviews

Eclectic and rather unique to my ears.

This is a non-stop, 72-minute anthology covering music from Double Ace between 1988 and 1997. If you're familiar with rap from the mid to late 1980s, various samples in Sucker Love, Megatraxx, and 4-Track Mixes #3 and #1 should take you down memory lane. The anthology has been tediously arranged for continuity by precision cross-fade, attacca, and segue. The segues are actually clips from the rap/hip-hop radio show they hosted from 1989 until 1999, so listening to the CD from beginning to end without interruption is kinda like listening to one of their radio shows! In fact, Bonus Track 1 is a humorous promo for their radio show. And if you ever called in to or appeared on their program, you just might hear your name or even your own voice on Beholden or Bonus Track 2! (Oh yeah, you gotta have their 1991 release entitled The Demo in Itself in order to fully appreciate the Rodney O and Joe Cooley parenthetical distinction of Megatraxx.) My review is based on the official CD release which contains extensive liner notes and a picture disc. I hope iTunes preserves the great continuity of the actual CD, but if it doesn't, then find and buy the CD. I think it's been put together really well. At the time of this typing (Jan 9, 2009) you can find these guys on Vimeo and YouTube, and I think they're releasing a new track or two sometime this year.
