Birds Fly South...

I was one of the first to download "Birds Fly South" when Echo Slightly released it to an internet community, and then to iTunes, and I've been loving it for weeks. I couldn't be more excited to write the first review; here goes... Echo Slightly has a beautiful, almost haunting sound without being too downbeat. The drumwork and guitar work together to offset the calm of the beautiful synth/keyboard and vocal work to create a balanced sound that somehow manages to be calm and exciting simultaneously. I would definitely reccomend Echo Slightly's works if you like bands such as Massive attack; even if you're a little new to the electronic genre, this beautiful fusion will be sure to catch your fancy.

Nice pop effort

For the past week I've been looping the whole album as background music while I do desk work. My favorite tracks are You Set Me Up (good hook) and The Only Thing That Changes, followed by The Weight of Everything, 3rd Way, Maybe We Don't Change That Much and Echo Slightly. None of the tracks are irritating, though, so the album is a good listen all the way through.

Nothing to complain about, but nothing really slaps your brain.

First release, so in that respect Echo's done a damn good job. Many a band releases their first effort and it's practically unlistenable. That's definitely not the case here. My only real gripe about the album is there's nothing mindbendingly unique to this, nothing that makes you say "That's gotta be Echo Slightly, only they can do that that well". The songwriting seemed a little reserved and straight up as well; not many quirky, alluded, or viciously comedic moments. It's predominantly feelings pop which's all well and good, but I hope they explore a few of the darker or less-used aspects of human existence on further albums. That's the huge perk of being indie, you can actually DO that with your music. In closing, you guys and gal have a LOT of potential. Just give into those little deviant idea devils sitting on your shoulders and really kick your audience in the headbones!
