Where can I get my spacesuit?!

The Woman Astronaut is a quite an evocative musical journey! Penka Kouneva wonderfully blends orchestra and electronics to narrate a cinematic triptych of space exploration and personal triumph. This album demands to be listened to from start to finish in order to experience the wide range of emotions from danger to wonder.

Penka expertly varies colors and textures to express both the grandeur and emptiness of space. Many beautiful solos stand out to indicate the space's vast stillness, such as the plaintive violin in "Earth", sincere flute in "Forest", and haunting piano in "Broken". Complementing this narrative well, "Training" explodes with a visceral intensity while "Solar Flare" completes the epic journey with a captivating operatic flourish. I have enjoyed listening to this album many, many times and look forward to more from such a talented composer!

Fantastic Journey

Captivating listening experience! Penka takes you on a great adventure to space. Listen to this album from beginning to end to truly enjoy the ride!

A wonderful musical journey!

The Woman Astronaut is a bravura piece of compositional skill and excellence.

I'd heard Kouneva's work before, so I knew she has talent (check out her other CD "A Warrior's Odyssey"). But this disc shows her talent has grown.

While I know it's a stand alone piece, it has so much of what's missing from many modern film scores: themes!
On top of that, it has a wonderful immediacy, emotion, and musical structure. And here's the key factor (back to the idea of themes) - I want to listen to it again. Repeated listening is often overlooked, and her music, like the best film music, has that. Having music that catches you is crucial. This music does that.

Here's hoping this great disc gets Kouneva some great film scoring assignments.
