iTunes Review

Independent status seems to suit Kellie Pickler, who finds a happy medium between mainstream country sounds and more personal expression on her fourth album, The Woman I Am. After parting company with BNA Records, the former American Idol sweetheart signed with Black River Entertainment, tapped producers Frank Liddell and Luke Wooten (the team behind her underappreciated 2012 LP 100 Proof), and cut a superior batch of sassy twang numbers and self-revealing ballads. Key to this album are three standout tunes cowritten by Pickler: “Selma Drye” (a rollicking number inspired by the singer’s great-grandmother), “I Forgive You” (an anguished breakup tune of unusual depth and sensitivity), and “Bonnie and Clyde” (an ominous outlaw narrative with plenty of swampy atmosphere). From feisty rockers like “Ring for Sale” and “No Cure for Crazy” to bouncy old-school country tracks like “Buzzin’” and plaintive acoustic laments like “Tough All Over,” the album covers a wide swath of territory without stumbling. Pickler asserts her freedom in “Little Bit Gypsy” and spells out her flaws and virtues on the title tune.

Female Country Album of the Year

Now THIS is what I call good country music -- great job Kellie... again !! She has delivered another knockout release that proves she is one fo the most talented women in country.. if Kellie had Blake and Miranda's manager power, this cd would be #1, but instead we have to endure less talented singers winning all the awards the last 3-4 years -- this is REAL COUNTRY singing without gimmicks, just heart. Bravo.

Great Step for Kellie

I adore the fact that Kellie and her husband, songwriter Kyle Jacobs, wrote multiple songs for this album ("The Woman I Am") and that Kyle wrote great songs for Kellie that are hilarious and sweet ("Little Bit Gypsy", "No Cure for Crazy'). Kellie can still show her sass, fun side, and tenderness all in one single album that is so underrated.

Amazing COUNTRY Album! Even Better Than 100 Proof!!!!!

Kellie defies the odds again and tops 100 Proof, the best country album of 2012! Once again every song is great, no filler here! I'm so glad Kellie didn't go pop on us and keeps it country and modern!

In 2005, singer Kellie Pickler landed a spot in the fifth season of American Idol. Though she finished sixth, the former waitress and Miss North Carolina contestant charmed American audiences with her Southern twang and blonde ambition, resulting in a contract with BNA Records that yielded her debut album, Small Town Girl, in the fall of 2006 and an eponymous sophomore release in 2008, which yielded Pickler's first Top Ten hit, "Best Days of Your Life," a song she co-wrote with Taylor Swift.
