Editors’ Notes

Isaac Hayes’ signature achievement may be “Theme from Shaft,” a funky vocal performance that still resonates. However, the real beauty of this 1971 action soundtrack lies in compositions that transport us through the movie’s sequences with arrangements that merge brassy jazz with a distinctly soulful tone, earthy Rhodes piano on “Bumpy’s Lament,” and lounge grooves like “Café Regio’s” that anticipate the disco movement. Hayes was an innovator of the first order, and Shaft finds him at his peak.

Customer Reviews

This Soundtrack's As Sharp As A Bad Mother... –Shut Your Mouth... –I'm Talkin' Bout Shaft!

...Then we can dig it! You cats are gonna dig this legendary 1970's soundtrack. This is a beautiful bigass bargain of a deal 'cuz 'Shaft' was a double album back in the day. That means you're gettin' a whole lotta smooth for your scratch. If you like your melodies vibrant, cool and colorful and take your rhythms with a side soul, then this collection of premium cuts from the 'black moses' (Isaac Hayes) is just what you want in your bag. Nothin' beats an original, and baby, they don't get any more original than this.

Love this movie

Shaft was and still is a super bad movie from the '70's. We all loved it back then and love it even more now!

Classic

This is truly a classic. While most will immediately like Shaft, "no name bar" is awesome.
