iTunes Review

Those familiar with Vince Gill’s music know how broad his musical reach is – country, jazz and rock have all contributed to his eclectic sound. Still, even a committed fan might’ve been surprised by the creative ambition displayed on his 2006 release These Days. A four-disc helping of new recordings is a rarity, not to mention a risky career move. What serves to unite these lovingly-rendered tunes is the warmth of Gill’s high-tenor voice and the inspired craftsmanship of his writing. With albums devoted to uptempo rock, romantic balladry, honky-tonk country and acoustic bluegrass/folk, These Days covers a lot of ground, and Gill makes the journey flow whether he’s kicking up dust on rockers like “Sweet Thing,” delving into barroom pathos with “This New Heartache” or invoking Appalachian memories on “Cold Grey Light Of Dawn.” The ballads disc is especially strong, pairing Gill with such duet partners as Emmylou Harris (“Some Things Never Get Old”) and Diana Krall (“Faint Of Heart”). Making his creative risks pay off, Gill turns These Days into a celebration of American music itself.

Pure Musical Magic… A 4 CD “Classic” from Vince!

Vince has created what I believe will become his signature classic album. It includes 43 all new songs on 4 CD’s (each in a different genre – yet keeping close to country as Vince always does). The up-tempo CD includes his signature “rocking” guitar work and guests like Gretchen Wilson and Rodney Crowell. This up-tempo music fits easily into today’s “country” format on country radio. The more hard core country CD should please all those that love to hear Vince sing a more traditional country song with fiddle and guitar (Like he did in his classic CD “The Key”) including guests like Alison Krauss and Lee Ann Womack. The groovy CD is the more ballad oriented love song CD that will please those who enjoy hearing Vince sing his trademark slower ballad songs (With guests like Sheryl Crow and Lee Ann Rimes. The acoustic CD will please all those that love a more stripped down Bluegrass type sound (with guests like Guy Clark and Del McCoury) All in all 43 new songs, that are all pure Vince as the ultimate singer, songwriter and guitarist at the top of his form. The man does it all with class and ease. It also helps he brought along so many friends to flush out the sound he was going for, from Diana Krall to Del McCoury, Phil Everly etc. (a list so long you can take a look at the credits and just say “WOW!”) as far as the superstars Vince asked to contribute to this CD set. This will be the one everyone is talking about at the end of the year on all the “Best Of” lists – for ANY genre of music! Again, this is pure magic. Highly recommended…. Thanks Vince.

Grammy Worthy

This one has Grammy written all over it. Country, folk, americana, and bluegrass fans alike will appreciate this masterpiece. This collection is a cannonball in the revolution for music with artistic integrity from Nashville. Thank you Vince Gill for the courage to release a collection like this.

The MOST clever + brilliant album idea + project in music history!!!

With this album project, Vince has done what really no else has done, and followed through with an AMAZING set of work that would satisify about anyone who loves music. The list of the huge musical talents (like Patty Loveless, Lee Ann Womack, Emmylou Harris, Del McCoury, Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood, Alison Krauss, Sheryl Crow, Gretchen Wilson, and on and on) proves in itself that this album is A+++ quality! The Rockin' Record provides listeners who enjoy hearing some incredible electric guitar work (done by Vince himself) and just great vocals. The Groovy Record has some really relaxing bluesy/jazzy/pop-ish tunes on there that are also just so good. The Country & Western Record is my most favorite because I love traditional country and I know Vince is one of the best at singing it, and with the background vocals of those country greats, you know it's gonna be AMAZING stuff. It has cryin' steel guitars and double fiddle work, and lots of soul (the latter being what all the songs contain ;) ). The Acoustic Record has some grade A sounding acoustic (mostly bluegrass) instrumentals, and his voice shines on here like all the others. This album also has excellent songwriting and you just can't get over the vocals. There are only FOUR duets in this album, just so you know ("Nothin' For A Broken Heart" with Rodney Crowell, "Faint of Heart" with Diana Krall, "Take This Country Back" with John Anderson", and "Almost Home" with Guy Clark. All the others are background vocals. So....I recommend buying this album for the deal it has now ($18-30 at the stores). Definitely worth your money!!!

Born: April 12, 1957 in Norman, OK

Genre: Country

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Vince Gill paid nearly a decade-and-a-half of dues en route to becoming one of the most popular country stars of the '90s. Starting out as a bluegrass singer and multi-instrumentalist, he initially made his name with country-rockers Pure Prairie League and spent the '80s as part of country's new traditionalist movement before finding massive success as a contemporary country hitmaker. Gill had strong mainstream appeal, yet enough songwriting chops and grounding in tradition that he could maintain...
