iTunes Review

The two finest jazz singers of their time sound like the best of friends on the first—and greatest—of their three duet albums. Performed live in the studio in 1956 with pianist Oscar Peterson's Quartet (featuring guitarist Herb Ellis and drummer Buddy Rich), these 11 standards simmer and swing. The pair delivers more grace than gravitas, with Armstrong's subtly syncopated trumpet solos adding another authoritative voice to these nocturnal hits, which range from "Moonlight on Vermont" to "Stars Fell on Alabama."
