Editors’ Notes

Throughout Bad Blood, frontman Dan Smith's voice is as powerful as the album's production, which layers digitally altered harmonies over syrupy synths and precise instrumentation. From the methodical, piano-driven "Overjoyed" to the fast-paced, percussion-heavy "Laura Palmer," Bad Blood is as carefully crafted as it is teeming with talent.

Amazing Album

I have already downloaded the British version of the album and I must say that it is one of the best albums I have ever listened to. Bastille has such a unique sound. Filled with the bass drum beats that we all crave, overflowing with haunting and echoing vocals, combined with inspiring lyrics, Bastille is headed in an upward direction in the music business. Congrats on an amazing album!

I found about this band just a few months ago when I listened to "Pompeii" for the first time, and I've been hooked ever since. Bastille is quite simply one of the best new musical groups I've recently discovered. They have a very unique alternative sound not commonly heard in modern music. Full of rhythmic drum beats and thought-provoking lyrics, their music is both haunting and uplifting in equal measure. And Dan Smith's raspy vocals just take each track to a whole other level. My favorites are "Things We Lost In the Fire," "Bad Blood," "Flaws," "Laura Palmer," and of course, "Pompeii," which I easily consider to be one of the best songs of the whole year so far. Case in point, if you haven't gotten the chance to listen to this terrific UK band for yourself yet, you don't know what you're missing. These guys are gonna be be big, and this outstanding debut is only the beginning.

Finally more Bastille in America!

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Combining glossy '80s synth pop and arena-friendly choruses on singles such as "Pompeii," London's Bastille sold millions of their debut album Bad Blood. The group began as the solo project of singer/songwriter Dan Smith -- whose birthday is July 14 (aka Bastille Day) but became a full-fledged band in 2010 with the addition of Chris Wood, William Farquarson, and Kyle Simmons. Bastille attracted a lot of attention after putting a few tracks online, leading to support slots at major U.K. festivals...
