Album Review

Sentimentality is Craig Morgan's specialty and he's awash in it on 2008's That's Why, his first album for BMG Nashville and first major-label effort since his 2000 debut. The extra years suit Morgan well, as he's not really a lively singer; he eases into the song, letting his cured country croon settle into the polished pop textures of his co-production. There are times where the pulse quickens on That's Why, but never does this really rock or twang, not even on the small-town rallying cry "Sticks" or on the pulsating beat of "Every Red Light." This is middle-aged country-pop for Middle America, celebrating faith, family, and country in surroundings that are slightly too slick, but Morgan's saving grace is that deep voice that adds textures to his clichés and keeps the music country when it's threatening to float into anonymous adult contemporary aural wallpaper.

This is a reissue of "That's Why", courtesy of Sony Records.

All of you wondering what is going on with the track listing on this album, Sony decided to reissue it, deleting "Summer Sundown" and "Every Red Light" on the original issue and replacing them with "Bonfire" and "This Ain't Nothin'" on the reissue. Don't blame Apple, they had nothing to do with it. This was Sony's hare-brained idea. They could have just easily added the two new songs on the reissue, but remember this is Sony, who lately cannot do anything right. I bought the original album at iTunes when it first came out, so I just purchased the two new songs, but I feel for you all that didn't buy the original and want those two songs. I'm still rating this five stars, but only for Craig Morgan; Sony gets a zero for this idiotic move!

I Love Craig Morgan!!!

I love this album for a long time couldn't figure out what was wrong with my copy. It seemed that I was missing some songs. All is fine now. I read here that the album was re-worked and re-issued with a couple changes. I bought 2 extra songs and now have a complete "That's Why" album. Keep up the great work Craig!! We love you!!!!

Well I have always loved Craig Morgan! My faverote song on this cd is BONFIRE it is really good and I would put it as his 2nd best song next to International Harvester!

Singer/songwriter Craig Morgan was an army brat before he opted for a career in music. Born and raised in Nashville, Morgan was already a country music fan with dreams of playing guitar and making it big. But before his musical dreams could become reality, Morgan spent time serving in the U.S. Army, where he had a very respectable career and achieved high honors during peace and wartime. It was also during this time that Morgan whetted his guitar-playing styles to perform for troops whenever he could....
