Times change but thankfully Brian Wilson never loses the joy in his music. He still writes beautiful melodies that defy the usual pop formulas and while No Pier Pressure had a long, difficult path to completion, its results sound as easy and relaxing as Wilson’s finest work. Longtime collaborator Joe Thomas salvaged ill-fated sessions with Jeff Beck and Don Was and with Al Jardine, David Marks and Blondie Chaplin falling in line behind, Wilson created some remarkable moments (“What Ever Happened,” “The Right Time,” “Tell Me Why”). The Deluxe Edition adds three glorious tracks to the album’s center (“Don’t Worry,” “Somewhere Quiet,” “I’m Feeling Sad”).
