iTunes Editors’ Notes

The U.K. newspaper The Guardian calls Boy George’s first album in 18 years “the comeback of the year.” Considering the life that Boy George has lived in the interim—from arrests and 12-step groups to the two autobiographies, the Tony-nominated musical Taboo, and his fashion label B Rude—it’s a wonder that he ever found his way back to music. Yet from the opening track, “King of Everything,” where he’s looking to make amends with those who were caught in his self-destructive ways, to the smoother reggae song of acceptance “Live Your Life,” George here sings in tones that range from a lower, warmer croon to a lighter, airier attack that suggest that, at 52, he still has plenty left. “My God” comes close to mainstream singer/songwriter soul, while “It’s Easy” blossoms into orchestrated easy listening. The album's second half centers on reggae grooves (“My Star,” “Love and Danger”) that let George take it smooth. The bonus tracks on the deluxe version include covers of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” and Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games.”

BUY THIS RECORD

I've heard a couple of tracks off of Boy George's new album and they are fantastic!! He is in great voice and the writing is as thoughtful as you would expect from such a great artist. If BG has not been on your radar in the last few years its time to rediscover why you fell in love with him in the first place. He has been very busy spinning other artists' records as a globe trotting DJ and its worth checking out his Club Culture Radio podcast (also available on iTunes) but its great to hear his voice singing his lyrics once again.

We've missed you!!!

I have been a Boy George fan from the very beginning of his career, through the highs and lows. I still have some of his vinyl in storage. To hear his amazing voice again gives me chill. Although it has aged and gone through some rough times, he still sings with soul that is uniquely Boy George. "King of Everything" is reminiscent of when I first heard "Victims". Can't wait for the rest of the album.

Biography

Born: June 14, 1961 in Eltham, Kent, England

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

British singer Boy George combined a strong, soulful singing voice with a provocative sense of fashion, both of which were first brought to the attention of English and American audiences in the group Culture Club, for whom he served as lead singer from 1982 to 1986. The group wrote and played impeccable pop music, and Boy George's androgynous persona — heavy makeup and outrageous costumes — gave the group a distinct video image in the dawn of MTV. That very distinctiveness, however,...
