Progression Perfection

Being a huge Starkweather fan for a few years now I can say that this is a great progression from Croatoan. The music is structured masterfully and the vocals are uncompromisingly harsh and haunting. I also really enjoyed the soundscapes, Oktopus and Sophia Pereness did a great job in executing them. they help you delve into the claustrophobic, visceral, discordant and destructive web that Starkweather weaves throughout This Sheltering Night. I can already tell this is going to be one of my favorite if not my favorite album of 2010.

Psychadelic Metal

Starkweather's "This Sheltering Night" is to the metal genre what Yes' "Tales from Topographic Oceans" and Pink Floyd's "Animals" is to rock. All three albums are the epitomy of what the term "progressive" embodies, but are at polar opposite ends of the term. As "Tales" and "Animals" tend to evoke tranquil pastoral images, TSN takes the listener deep into dark, long buried, unexplored, feared inner spaces. Inner explorers listen at your own peril: You will learn your own secrets.

I love Starkweather!
