Excellent and Awesome!!!!!

I am a huge fan of brilliant, independent female singer/songwriters ( e.g. Bess Rogers, Allison Weiss, Meiko). Earlier this year I bumped into Lauren Balthrop's first album, 'Dear Georgiana' ("DG"). DG consistently (every song is worthwhile, and many are brilliant) demonstrated her precise, wonderful voice, and more importantly, catchy melodies and a musical genious that appeared in subtle, interesting ways. "This Time Around' is released several years after her first one, so I was excited to see how she would do in this effort.

I am not disappointed. This album continues to amaze. There is definitely a slight, yet apparent shift to a country sound in a few songs, which may prove to be a good vehicle for her in addition to the pop genre. DG had a few folk style songs, so not surprising to see light country, as it appears she spends time now between Brooklyn--with the exposure of Elizabeth (Ziman) and the Catapult--and Nashville.
The production quality on this album is more polished and sophisticated than with Lauren's freshman effort and there is an intimate, yet, 'lush' and expansive tone to many of the tunes.

Don't miss listening to the first song. 'Close.'

Highly recommended.
