EDITORS’ NOTES

In the wake of their platinum-selling, GRAMMY®-winning triumph—2012’s The Heist—Macklemore & Ryan Lewis return with an album that’s every bit as ambitious in its production, supporting cast, and lyrical themes. Featuring guest contributions from KRS-One, Kool Moe Dee, Leon Bridges, Chance the Rapper, Idris Elba, Anderson .Paak, and many more, This Unruly Mess I’ve Made is a soulfully produced and deeply introspective exploration of identity that makes thoughtful nods to rap’s past (“Buckshot”) and America’s present (the startling, climactic “White Privilege II”). The result is both provocative and moving.

We don’t need music that all sounds the same….

There’s too many people in these reviews that are caught up in what genre this is or is not.

Focus on the music, appreciate it for what it is and at worst, applaud the creativity.

“Rap Fans” are starting to remind me of a terrible country club. Where all the members want to do is tell you what is and isn’t hip-hop.

Genre’s evolve, times change and opinions shift. Embrace the ebb and flow of music and what it means to be a musician and start focusing less on what genre someone tries to claim they are in.

We’ve been waiting for this album for years.

We’ve been waiting for this album for years. We just didn’t know it yet. Macklemore possesses a special power that enables his music to find the crevices of your soul that you’ve simply forgotten about and it brings them to the forefront of your mind just to expose how broken we all really are. In this album he shows us all what a mess are. But more importantly inspires us that we can always recover. #WeAreAllAnUnrulyMess
