Original sound straight from the heart

5.0 Stars
Ryan's weekly worship set at Camber college night at Cornerstone @cschandler and many Sunday services have no doubt honed his awesome lead guitar chops (As We Go, Give Us This Day, Emmanuel reminiscent of Hillsong United-style maaad riffs) and vocal delivery. I am one of the many lucky ones who bought my CD at Ryan's CD launch party on 4/15/2010. Here is an album of 11 original tracks with heart and soul poured in them, rich with lyrics that are inspired by real life experiences that have brought his faith through trial (This Valley), including the loss of their first child (acoustic Right By My Side is a diary of someone caught in a suffering season). I personally like We The Redeemed, conjuring imagery of God's majesty revelled by His redeemed singing out in heartfelt worship. This track can be a standout track of the CD as I see many worship leaders will fall in love with it, giving it soaring arrangements to include in any given powerful worship set. Cover art by the gifted PromiseTangeman adds artistic delight. Recommend.

Overall A Great Album!

I can't throw this album 5 stars, because I wanted to actually review it from a critical standpoint. My personal friendship with Ryan aside, "This Valley" is an unlikely hit. Ryan Axtell's heart and soul went in to this album, and for being a self-released project, the album is quite good in more than just the songs (the recorded quality is surprisingly great). His style may not catch everyone's attention, but more than likely there's something for everyone here.

The obvious hit here is "We The Redeemed", which has the potential to be a worship-setting hit if the right people got behind it. While the full-band tracks are always good, the real diamonds here are the stripped-down acoustic pieces. "Jetties" is sonically beautiful while "Creation Song" channels moments of Simon & Garfunkel or Jars of Clay.

The only real drawback to the album is the occasional melody line. While nothing ever flops, there were moments that I felt could have been tweaked for the sake of being memorable and catchy. But make no mistake, there are no musical downs here, nor lyrical. Whether this is what you'd call your personal taste or not is what will ultimately decide whether you enjoy the album or not. But if the band tracks aren't what you're looking for, don't leave without digging into the acoustic stuff. They're the real highlight of this album. Great job Ryan!

Love this album

I am blessed to be able to listen to Ryan at church but when I bought this album I realized just how blessed I am. He has poured his heart into this work and it is evident. I truly love this album. I can tell you to buy it and you will not be disappointed.
