Good, but not Brilliant
Thor 2 was an amazing movie. Brian Tyler's approach to the usic is very similar to Patrick Doyle's. Both composers offer two or three rather simple themes that are redeemed in Doyle's Thor by careful use, good drive, and a mainly orchestral organic feel (minus the amazing track The Compound, which does have a much more lean, modern feel). Doyle's main theme is less heroic and more antiheroic in my mind. It sounds pretty, and definitely has a "good character" feel to it, but it doesn't have the out-and-out bombast that Tyler's theme does (which, granted, is repetetive).
Both composers use leitmotif to some extent (mainly in their main themes for Thor and/or Asgard, which are practically interchangeable), however it is interesting to note that Tyler's themes for Thor and Loki are actually the same chords and the same melody, only Loki's version is far sadder and forlorn. A nod to their brotherhood that I greatly appreciated.
In the general action tracks, Tyler's music does sound repetetive (often like Iron Man 3), where Doyle strove to break new musical ground, but simply didn't always have the time to fully develop each idea.
'Thor: The Dark World' is a great score. A must buy!
Brian Tyler has a knack for composing film scores that sit in that sweet spot between familiar and fresh. 'Thor: The Dark World,' is no exception. It has a simplicity about it that makes it very catchy, yet, upon repeated listens, it never gets old or redundant. Another great Brian Tyler score, and a must buy for any fan of superhero action and/or film score music. Kudos to Mr. Tyler!
THOR: THE DARK WORLD
I have been waiting for this movie for over a year!! I'm still waiting for its release this Friday, and I'm so excited, I could scream into my pillow right now if I wanted to!! I believe that Avengers has been building up to this movie to see where Asgard takes us. It expect it will be an epically awesome movie!!
The music sounds like a great turn out. It's very different from Patrick Doyle, who's Thor soundtrack is amazing, yet it is familiar. It's almost brought to me, a Star Wars I-III feel to it to me. I loved the application of the music in Iron Man 3, so I am very pleased with this album!!! TERRIFIC JOB!!!! 😄👍
(Present day Dec. 3rd when added on): to the person who asked "What is the song when Loki 'dies'??!"
I think the song "Deliverance" is that song where he "dies." I remember it having that louder remorseful sound right after Loki was off screen and Thor was shielding Jane as they were walking through the sandstorm-y storm. I would have to see the movie a second time to be absolutely sure. But just the title, "Deliverance" gives me confidence that it's that song. Loki did save Thor in that scene, so it makes sense to me. I hope I helped u out! (I'm a big Loki fan too!) 😁
