iTunes Review

The New Jersey alt-rockers take a big leap forward on their first major-label album, marrying stadium-sized production to personal lyrics, and huge pop-rock riffs to Misfits-style horror-punk imagery. Singer Gerard Way exorcises demons via the epic deal-with-the-Devil revenge tale the band builds, touching on the grieving process (“Helena”), lost love (“The Ghost of You”), the pain of being bullied (“I’m Not Okay”), and suicidal ideation (“To the End”). The soaring, powerful choruses and punchy rhythms make it clear that he won’t go down without a fight, a triumph in itself.

Customer Reviews

If you have not listened to them don't review them!

This band is very good. They have good melodies, catchy lyrics, and very good voices. For those people who dislike them because they are "goth junk", "mtv sellouts", "freaks", "overly emotional" I have one this to say. If you simply dislike the band, only saw 30 seconds of the Helena video, or would never even consider buying the album because they are "goth freaks" then why review it with a bad score and discourage those who might like them from listening to their songs. I will admit that the Helena video was a bit creepy, but it's still a great song and a great video. Also if you simply dislike them because of their appearance you are probably quite shallow and probably a pompous, spoiled, brat who won't accept other people's opinions. In conclusion if you don't like them don't buy their album and don't review them.

All you have to do is find the key and you can understand the lyrics...

I'm defenitally not some goth 12 year old, but I love the music, lyrics, and band members. I'm sorry if you don't appreciate this music, but unless you've expierienced something life changing, like MCR has, it's not likely you'll understand this music. I've really looked up to MCR when I was dealing with difficult times, and I know some of you have! It's amazing how Gerard used to be addicted to drugs and was an alchoholic and near commiting suicide, yet, he beat the odds and is now a drug free, sober, not depressed or suicidal person. Sometimes all you have to do is realize not where you currently are, but look to where you can be if you just stop and look at what gifts god gave you. This album is like a locked door. All you have to do is find the key and you can understand the lyrics. I hope this was a helpful review.

Three Cheers for My Chemical Romance

This album is full of layers of voices, sudden pauses, and chainsaw guitar. I enjoy the songs "Thank you for the Venom, I'm not Okay (I promise), To the End, Helena, and The Ghost of You. This album and these songs stand out from the crowd, making this band and album unique and awsome!

Formed: September 11, 2001 in Newark, NJ

With their emo-punk songwriting, theatrical vocals, and neo-goth appearance, My Chemical Romance rose from the East Coast underground to the forefront of modern rock during the early 2000s. In keeping with the tragic element of the group's best-known singles -- including "Helena," "I'm Not OK (I Promise)," and "Welcome to the Black Parade" -- My Chemical Romance has roots in catastrophe, as frontman Gerard Way decided to form the band after watching the World Trade Center collapse on September 11,...
