iTunes Editors’ Notes

Jane’s Addiction entertained an interesting position in the alternative rock scene by the end of the ‘80s. They established themselves as an elaborate arena-rock-ready group in an “alternative” era that shunned much of that pretense. Where other bands piled into vans and played rough, gruff, offensively loud and aggressive music, Jane’s Addiction orchestrated precise arrangements dependent on tight dynamics and an artsy dramatic view of the world that meshed Led Zeppelin (whose “Whole Lotta Love” gets a live workout) with the doom and gloom of Goth. This extensive collection of mostly unreleased demos and live material proves just how careful this band of outlaws really was. The demos are close to their album counterparts and the live versions are animated but clearly part of a larger atmospheric gestalt. Fans, however, will obviously clamor to hear these tracks in all their carefully mixed and mastered glory, whether it’s the echoed halls of the demo of “Classic Girl,” demo and live version of “Summertime Rolls” or the live version of the band’s most famous track “Been Caught Stealing.”

Timeless Music!!!!

It is so great that this collection is now available. And what a great deal on-line for all this timeless music! Cheers to Perry, Dave, Eric, & Perk for making all us Jane's fans excited in the year 2009!!! Here's to many more years of great music!

Curiosities or Repackaged, Reissued, W/ a Photo and Tacky Badge

Jane's Addiction is back out on the road with Nine Inch Nails on the NIN/JA tour reliving early 90s Lolapalooza glory days, but really- when are we going to see some new material- This is a brilliant collection and great for anyone either trying to get into JA or who didn't buy Kettle Whiste and Up From the Catacombs- but there's not much that is new here for those of us who grew up on Jane's looking for more of the old excitement of Nothing's Shocking. Maybe the new tour will stoke the creative spirit, but really I'm tired of seeing Perry on John Varvatos adds and listening to the Strays album wishing to hell they'd really made an effort there. You gotta love this band and what they represented... how awesome Nothing's Shocking was when it first came out but at the end of the day it's all really just nostalgia. C'mon gents get back in the studio and make something worthy- It used to be there- quit worrying about being rock stars and bad blood from bad decisions and remember what it's like to really rock (and really enjoy it). Thanks for the collection, but we'd all appreciate something new- not repackaging from the record company's Dead Star.

Classic!! I learned so much from this music...

Imagine a world that is created dispite the drama. Only to be torn down in dramatic fasion. The music is chanting to a higher level of Rock stardome. I only wish everyone could listen closely to the music behind the music.. This album is a great piece of art for your eyes to stare at.

Biography

Formed: 1984 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Jane's Addiction were one of the most hotly pursued rock bands when they gained notice in Los Angeles in the mid-'80s, with record companies at their feet. Flamboyant frontman Perry Farrell, formerly of the band Psi Com, had an undeniable charisma and an interest in provocative art (he designed the band's album covers), and Jane's Addiction played a hybrid of rock music: metal with strains of punk, folk, and jazz. The quartet, comprised of Farrell, bassist Eric Avery, drummer Stephen Perkins, and...
