Three-Legged Unicorn

Fall on the floor, side-splitting, cerebral hilarity. Slade Ham's unique style combines with his observational genius to create an incredibly entertaining romp. Intelligent and witty, he takes his audience on a wild ride of Homeric proportions with a modern-day twist. Loved it!

Finally a solid comedy album from beginning to end!

It's been a long time since I've heard a comedian deliver an album that is both consistently raw and consistently witty. This album is hilarious in both regards. Slade reminds me of the comedians that I really enjoyed 20 years ago- Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, Eddie Murphy, etc.- he is blunt, he pulls no punches, and no feelings are spared; but above all, he is extremely clever and creative, weaving together bits that are so unique, that you begin laughing as soon as he begins building it up. He stands head and shoulders above comedians who simply use crude imagery and offensive statements to shock the audience into laughing.

Instead, on this album, Slade seems to dig two and three levels into every topic he sends up. He begins with a ridiculous premise, such as children who no longer play outside, and riffs on that for a bit. This alone is pretty funny stuff, but then he digs into a second level, where he starts taking the subject to some absurdly funny lenthgs. You're laughing out loud by now, thinking that he's about to finish and move on to the next subject, but then he sneaks in this third level where he tacks on a final observation or comment that you didn't see coming, and that takes you by surprise because it's not only funny, but brilliant. Clearly beneath the rough-and-tumble delivery, Slade is a very thoughtful and intellectual guy, which makes this album extremely interesting and enjoyable.

He takes on Scott Stapp, which is one of my favorite bits. The bit about Crazy Doesn't Bluff was particularly funny as well, and The One That Got Away was a VERY strong finish. Check out the track previews and you'll get a sense of his style. Taken as a whole, this album is well worth the $9.99 download. I'm about to go back in for my second listen.
