Album Review

This encounter between Chick Corea (sticking to acoustic piano), tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker, bassist Eddie Gomez, and drummer Steve Gadd lives up to expectations. The original program featured three lengthy "Quartet" pieces including sections dedicated to Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. The CD reissue adds four briefer pieces that were previously unissued, including an unaccompanied Brecker workout on "Confirmation" that would be perfect for "blindfold" tests. This blowing date is highly recommended for all true jazz fans.

A monster of an album

very innovative stuff here. the song 'part 2' has a hell of a modal solo from brecker. And you can't beat track 8 with brecker unaccompanied with chick playing the drums instead of piano.

The best CD ever!

THIS IS MY FAVORITE CD EVER. I PLAY IT WEEKLY SINCE 1992... never getting tired of it!

Fantastic Performance

I attended the performance of this album back in the early 80s at the Boston Globe Jazz Festival. Best jazz performance I've ever heard. These players are masters and they play off each other masterfully. I've been listening to this album for over 20 years and I still hear new things in it. I'm impressed with all the players but great uniqueness comes from Steve Gadd's drum tonalities. Love it.

Not content at any time to rest on his laurels, he has been involved in quite a few important musical projects, and his musical curiosity has never dimmed. A masterful pianist who, along with Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett, was one of the top stylists to emerge after Bill Evans and McCoy Tyner, Corea is also one of the few electric keyboardists to be quite...
