Three Snakes and One Charm

Three Snakes and One Charm

For their fourth album, The Black Crowes hunkered down in an old house in Atlanta and crafted this surprisingly concise collection. "Girl from a Pawnshop" is the exception, its extended crescendo one of the band's most memorable moments; Chris Robinson's quiet, lovelorn poetry in "How Much for Your Wings?" is measured in comparison. "Nebekanezer" and "Under a Mountain" rock like the Crowes’ former selves, and they enlist the Dirty Dozen Brass Band to add R&B flourish to the rollicking "(Only) Halfway to Everywhere" and "Let Me Share the Ride."
