Album Review

A far cry from the soulful ballads that would later make her a favorite in R&B circles, Lattisaw's debut album consists of remakes of '60s and '70s pop hits and a few pleasant, if forgettable, disco entries. Recorded when she was only 12, Young and in Love showcases a warm, sweet voice surprisingly mature for its age. Her subtlety and youthful emotion work to great effect on serene numbers like "Love Is Here Beside Us" and the title track (both disco and ballad versions are included); and her delivery of Petula Clark's classic, "Downtown," is as enjoyable as the original. On several cuts, Lattisaw has a few intonation problems here and there. But the bulk of the performances is consistent, making it an essential item for any loyal fan. ~ Justin M. Kantor, Rovi

Young and Fantastic!

Stacy couldn't sound more precious and angelic on this debut album! She was absolutely precious, and later in her career proved, that not only was she one incredibly talented young lady, but one of the best and most underated teen vocalists of the 80s! The good thing is, Stacy is presently working on a gospel album, that will definitely prove once and for all, she is one of todays best female vocalists!

I am so glad to see Itunes adding more Stacy Lattisaw albums, to their library! Hopefully they will be able to get Stacy's debut Motown album, Take Me All The Way also! I know quite a few people who are dying to get their hands on that album!

When You're Young and in Love

I may have yet to buy a track from Stacy Lattisaw but, as far as the track "When You're Young and in Love" is concern, I like the Ralph Carter version better.

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s

When she was a teenager in the early '80s, urban soul singer Stacy Lattisaw had a string of Top 40 R&B hits, with three songs -- "Let Me Be Your Angel," "Love on a Two Way Street," and "Miracles" -- crossing over to the pop mainstream. Lattisaw recorded her first album for Cotillion Records at the age of 12 in 1979, under the direction of producer Van McCoy. However, it wasn't until she hooked up with Narada Michael Walden, a former drummer with the Mahavishnu Orchestra who was just beginning a career...
