Superb!

Tanja,

This is by far the best English-language version of Brecht's beloved musical that I've ever heard. The translations may not be literal, but this production's raw, harsh, profane, and angry interpretation is far closer to Brecht's original intent than any of the romanticized and sugar-coated interpretations that are so popular. Some changes have been made: the order of the songs has been changed, Lucy has been eliminated (Jenny fills her role as Polly's rival), and the setting is modern. Still, these performers - particularly Tara Hugo, as Jenny - are incredible. I highly recommend this to any fan of Brecht's work.

A better Pirate Jenny awaits you...

anonymousjz,

These recordings are good, but Anne Kerry Ford's album, "Weill" contains the best performance of Pirate Jenny. Ever. Anywhere.

Really really good!

The_Banshee_of_Bop,

Befoe I heard this, I knew only the soundtrack from the off-Broadway cast from the 70s, with Raul Julia as MacHeath and Ellen Greene as Jenny Towler. That is a wonderful sountrack, and this is as good as that one was.
