iTunes Review

Thriller’s late-1982 release marked the beginning of Michael Jackson’s entry into another level of fame; it also saw the end of a great five-year period of creativity that had seen him raise his solo game on the unstoppable Off the Wall and make heavy contributions to the Jacksons’ Destiny and Triumph. Stripping the weight of history from Thriller is a big job, but hearing the record as a statement in itself remains hugely rewarding. Seven of its nine original cuts were Top Ten singles, but more important is the way Jackson and producer Quincy Jones turned the singer’s obsessions into intricate, stunningly sung pop-funk. From the knowing humor of the title track to the dread of “Billie Jean” and “Beat It” and the irresistible cuteness of “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” and “Baby Be Mine,” Thriller finds Jackson at an artistic height. A quarter century later, it still sells. And nostalgia is far down the list of reasons why. This special edition includes “Someone in the Dark” from an E.T. story album, a “Billie Jean” demo, outtakes and numerous intriguing, amusing interview segments with Jones and songwriting collaborator Rod Temperton.

Great Album, Not So Great Repackaging

If you are a super fan, of course you're picking this up but none of the new remixes are worth buying. The original album is superb and a landmark and deserves another look. Unfortunately, to get more people to buy this, studio execs think they have to pander to the young crowd and bring out artist that are hip now and will never be the caliber talent of Michael Jackson.

This is great for the young and old!!!!

We all know the original album was great every track released was a hit record. The mysterious and sound blasting Billie Jean to the cobative Wanna Be Startin Somethin. Even the song that werent released (Baby be mine and espcially The Lady In My Life) are supurb. On this delux edition of Thriller you get the behind the scenes sessions of Thriller including the first demo of Billie Jean from 1981 and a sort of blooper session of Michael with Vincent Prince recording the oppening to Thriller which is haunting and funny at the same time. And if the music wasnt enough you get all the classic videos of Michael during the Thriller era(Thriller, Beat It(remastered) and Billie Jean). As well as getting the great music videos you will also get Michaels historic peroformance of Billie Jean at Motown 25 which showed off the young 24 year old's talent for dancing which hasnt been matched then or since. The remixes some of which are pretty good ( P.Y.T , The Girl is Mine and the decent Akon remix of Wanna Be Startin Somethin) while some are pretty bad (Fergie's rendition of Beat It and Kanye West remix of Billie Jean which is missing the iconic bass line). Anyways this is a great deal for a piece of music history that will be timeless and enjoyed by every generation to come and if your not one of the 100 million people that have bought this record its not to late ..... I recomend you buy this If you dont have the cash for the delux version i also reccomend the regular edition of Thriller 25 if you want the remixes if not you can do without

Very nice

Still loving the thriller album and vids and remixes are great too. Thanks I tunes

Michael Jackson wasn't merely the biggest pop star of his era, shaping the sound and style of the '70s and '80s; he was one of the defining stars of the 20th century, a musician who changed the contours of American culture. A preternaturally gifted singer and dancer, Jackson first rose to stardom in 1969 as the 11-year-old frontman for his family's band, the Jackson 5. As remarkable a run as the Jackson 5 had -- at the dawn of the '70s, each of their first four singles went to number one and they...
