EDITORS’ NOTES

As Loquat’s dynamic husband-and-wife duo of Kylee Swenson Gordon and Anthony Gordon delve deeper into parenthood, rumors abound that the band may soon be flirting with an electronic direction that’s more conducive to raising a little one. If these awesome remixes of their sleek single “Time Bending” are any indication of said rumors, we’re in for some sonic ambrosia. Los Angeles–based progressive/electro house DJ Morgan Page is the first to have a go at reworking the tune on this EP. He starts with percolating beats that build up alongside samples of Swenson Gordon’s honeyed vocals before adding handclaps, organ drones, and powerful swells of ambience. Dan Sena takes a different approach to the song with neon laser blasts and deep dubstep rumbling that works in a sternum-rattling wobble without upstaging Swenson Gordon’s melodies. Mixing the vocals over pianos and pounding beats, the London duo Natema bestows the most danceable remix here. Of course, electro flourishes are nothing new to Loquat—its sophisticated 2012 album We Could Be Arsonists intertwined such innovative-sounding textures with beautifully moody indie pop.
